    Delcam has reported that Oxford Lasers is using PowerMill CAM to program the company's range of laser-based micro-machining systems After many years' success with 3-axis systems, Oxford Lasers is now producing 5-axis equipment.
  • TRUMPF building opening draws 400, including CT governor
    On April 30, 2008, TRUMPF celebrated the grand opening of the Laser Innovation & Technical Excellence (LITE) Building, where more than 400 people participated in the ribbon cutting ceremony attended by Connecticut Governor Jodi Rell, Lieutenant Governor Michael Fedele, company officials, representatives of national, state and local government, as well as many customers and employees.
  • IMRA America obtains license for ultrafast laser machining technology from the U. of Toronto
    IMRA America (IMRA) has acquired a license to rights under US Patent # 6,552,301 for a novel method of micromachining with short pulse lasers developed by University of Toronto (U of T) researchers. This license gives IMRA the right to sublicense this micromachining technology to its customers.
  • UK-based Meet the Editors event to discuss worldwide laser markets
    Two PennWell editors, including Industrial Laser Solutions editor-in-chief David Belforte, will be keynote speakers at a UK-based event on June 19, 2008 called "The Laser & Photonics Marketplace 2008: Meet the Editors." Belforte and Laser Focus World editor-in-chief Stephen Anderson will join Arnold Mayer from Optech Consulting to give an interactive applications-orientated overview of the worldwide laser markets.
  • TRUMPF opens new laser factory in Connecticut
    Today TRUMPF Inc. celebrates the grand opening of its Farmington, CT, Laser Innovation & Technical Excellence (LITE) Building, a new research and manufacturing facility that will be used to develop new lasers and expand the company's production of laser resonators.
  • JPSA announces partnership with ETSC Technology in China
    J. P. Sercel Associates Inc. (JPSA) has announced a partnership with ETSC Technology Co. to represent and service JPSA laser systems and technology products in China. ETSC is a professional distribution company for photonics and semiconductor industrial equipment and technology.
  • TRUMPF establishes first production facility in Japan
    TRUMPF officially opened a new production facility, TRUMPF Manufacturing Japan, in Fukushima on April 22. The products to be manufactured are primarily aimed at applications in Japan. In combination with the compact and automated TRUMPF sheet metal processing machines, these comply especially well with the requirements of the Japanese market due to their comparatively small foot print.
  • Powerlase receives royal recognition for international growth
    Powerlase Ltd, manufacturer of nanosecond Q-switched, diode-pumped solid state (DPSS) lasers, has been awarded the Queen's Award for Enterprise. The award recognises the company's continued successful expansion in the international marketplace and the laser innovator's role in furthering the reputation of manufacturing excellence to an international audience.
  • New handbook on ultrashort pulse lasers available
    The Bavarian Laser Centre has published a new volume in the series "BLZ User Handbooks" called "Ultrashort Pulse Lasers — Basic Principles and Applications." The aim of the handbook series is to illustrate the basic principles of photonic technologies and their applications.
  • Photonics Europe draws 2300 attendees, 1100 papers
    The broad scope of topics across photonics technologies and the participation of industry drew strong attendance to SPIE Europe's Photonics Europe in Strasbourg, France, from April 7-10th. Total attendance was 2300, up from previous years' events. Growth was seen in the number of participants in technical presentations and programs as well as in organizations in the exhibition, which included 150 exhibiting companies.
