  • Quanta System donates a laser for art restoration to Pope
    Quanta System, a manufacturer of medical, industrial and scientific lasers in Varese, Italy, has donated a special laser for fine arts conservation to Pope Benedict XVI. A donation ceremony was held on April 17 in Rome at the annual meeting of the company.
  • 3D Systems expands Accura materials product line in Japan
    3D Systems Corp. has announced the immediate availability of an expanded portfolio of six new Accura materials to the Japanese marketplace. This family of products offers a wide-range of engineered materials and composites for expert integration with all of 3D Systems' stereolithography systems.
  • Rockwell Industries offers courses for laser professionals
    Rockwell Laser Industries is offering these courses for laser professionals over the next two months: Principles of Lasers and Laser Safety from May 6-7, 2008 in Cincinnati, OH; Laser Safety Officer from June 3-6, 2008 in Minneapolis, MN; and Measurements for Laser Safety from June 24-26, 2008 in Cincinnati, OH.
  • Mazak Optonics plans new $10M HQ in Elgin, IL
    Mazak Optonics Corp. has announced that it is planning to move into a new, $10 million North American headquarters complex, in Elgin, IL, by December of 2008. Construction of the new facility — located on a highly visible, eight-acre parcel of land on the northwest corner of Interstate 90 and Randall Road in Elgin — will begin later this month.
  • PRIMA to demonstrate 2D & 3D laser cutting & bending innovations at open house/seminar
    PRIMA has announced that it will be holding an open house/seminar on June 4th and 5th at PRIMA North America's Chicopee, MA, Technology Center. The event will feature the latest in 2D and 3D laser cutting innovations including new laser cutting systems offering increased speed and power for significant productivity gains. A new FINN-POWER press brake will also be demonstrated.
  • GCC wins 2008 Outstanding Photonics Product Award for its laser metal marking system
    GCC, Taipei, Taiwan, has announced that it has won the 2008 Outstanding Photonics Product Award presented by the Photonics Industry & Technology Development Association (PIDA) for its advanced large working table metal marking system, GCC LaserPro S290. PIDA, a nonprofit organization gathering technology and market analysis worldwide for Taiwanese optoelectronic industries, gives out annual awards.
  • Rofin-Baasel receives Intel's Preferred Quality Supplier award
    Rofin-Baasel was one of 35 recipients of Intel Corp.'s 2007 Preferred Quality Supplier (PQS) award for outstanding performance in providing products and services deemed essential to Intel's success. The company was awarded for its efforts supplying Intel with laser marking equipment
  • Fonon Technology relocates to bigger facility in Lake Mary, FL
    Fonon Technology International (FTI) has recently relocated to a 319,800 sq. ft. facility in Lake Mary, FL. Sixty-five percent of the facility is dedicated solely to manufacturing and will help contribute to the company's move toward lean manufacturing principles.
  • JPSA job shop offers vertical wall taper-less hole drilling
    J P Sercel Associates (JPSA) has begun to offer hole drilling with excimer lasers with controlled hole tapering. This means that holes of varying sizes in a wide variety of soft or hard materials can be drilled with straight or vertical walls regardless of the thickness of the material drilled through, i.e., unaffected by a high aspect ratio. JPSA can also drill holes with a controlled taper (i.e., user-defined angle) as well as vertical ("taper-less") ones.

    RapidToday.com, a web site for the users of rapid prototyping & 3D printing, is a new resource that features news updates and includes insider information on the industry.
